Springtime in Philadelphia:  Photography, the IceBox, and the new Barnes Foundation with Karen Sinsheimer, Curator of Photography
May 22 to 26, 2013

Philadelphia is not only home to the Liberty Bell, boathouses, and string bands; it is a city that has continually nurtured the arts, with exceptional museums, generous art patrons, and a great creative spirit.

The photographic community in Philadelphia has entered an exciting period of revival, fueled by both old and new institutions. The Philadelphia Museum of Art recently opened its remodeled print study room. Project Basho runs a community darkroom and gallery. Additionally, the city holds a yearly “Philly Photo Day,” led by the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center. On that day, everyone in the city is invited to take a photograph in Philadelphia and all submitted photos are hung in the gallery and throughout the city.

SBMA will have exclusive tours of the city’s art venues including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the IceBox in the Crane Arts Building, the new Barnes Foundation, and photography collections in the homes of Philadelphians. The tour is based for four nights at the elegant Four Seasons, in its equally elegant location on Logan Square, designed after Place de la Concorde in Paris, and Museum Row.  $2,270 per person double occupancy, $2,990 per person single occupancy, plus a $400 SBMA donation.
