Events Manager

Full-Time

The Santa Barbara Museum of Art seeks a dynamic, experienced, and creative special events professional to manage, develop, and implement all aspects of Development Department events. The Events Manager will be responsible for the Museum’s annual major fundraising event, opening receptions, campaign events, and member and donor cultivation and stewardship events. Reports to Senior Development Officer.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Proactively manage events in collaboration with staff across the Museum to ensure communication is effective and cooperative;
  • Lead fundraising event planning committee meetings with staff and volunteers; 
  • Meet or exceed fundraising event revenue goals;
  • Maintain all deadlines to ensure smooth execution of events;
  • Work with Grants Manager on corporate sponsorship solicitations;
  • Manage online, silent, and/or live auction item solicitation, tracking, and execution;
  • Work closely with the Marketing department to coordinate communications and secure press coverage for events;
  • Create copy and coordinate printing and delivery for event invitations, programs, and other printed materials;
  • Schedule and negotiate catering, décor, entertainment, valet, A/V, design, favors, and other proposals with vendors;
  • Prepare annual Development event and exhibition budgets, and maintain financial records for events;
  • Consult on event planning and implementation for all other Museum departments to provide recommendations on ways to eliminate operational challenges and improve the organization and execution of events;
  • Maintain the museum-wide events calendar;
  • Coordinate and supervise event volunteers as needed;
  • Attend events, and assure pre- and post-activities are properly implemented;
  • Interact with donors and guests during events;
  • Participate in the integration and functioning of support group activities as they relate to Development; 
  • Assist with Women’s Board, membership, and Museum Collectors Council events, as needed.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of three years planning and implementing fundraising and donor cultivation events.

Skills:

  • Exemplary organizational skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with people at all levels of an organization.
  • Knowledge of catering, banquet, and event planning best practices.
  • Ability to oversee and coordinate contractors and services relating to events.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks while working independently.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and familiarity with Raiser’s Edge database management software.

Status:

Full time, regular.
