The Mandelring Quartet, founded in 1983, is the winner of major competitions, including ARD’s International Music Competition and the Premio Paolo Borciani. They are frequent performers at international musical centers and leading festivals such as the Schwarzenberg and Hohensems Schubertiades, the Lower Rhine Music Festival, and the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival. The ensemble was Quartet-in-Residence for the 2020/21 season in the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid.
In the spring of 2023, the ensemble was, for the fourth time, privileged to be invited to perform in the Spanish Royal Palace in Madrid using Stradivari instruments from the royal collection. They will return after lauded performances at SBMA in 2012, 2017, and 2019 to perform Haydn’s Rider, Beethoven’s quartet in C Major Op. 59, No. 3, and after intermission, a series of short pieces including Miniature Viennese March (Kreisler); Pennies from Heaven (Johnston); The Syncopated Clock (Anderson); St. Louis Blues (Handy); and Sir Duke (Stevie Wonder).
Chamber Music Concerts at SBMA are supported by the Katharine Putnam and Reginald M. Faletti Concert Fund with additional support from the Curletti Fund.
