New Music/Ancient Japan: A Pop-Up Performance on Gagaku Instruments

Join SBMA in the galleries for an informal and intriguing concert featuring an unusual pairing of the traditional instruments of the Japanese Imperial Court with contemporary compositions. UCSB Professor Fabio Rambelli, on shō, and visiting musicians Thomas Piercy (hichiriki) and Lish Lindsay (ryūteki) perform works by Alan Hovhaness and John Cage, along with more recent original pieces and selections from the classical repertory.
