Genre-defying, unconventional, acclaimed author Jonathan Lethem returns to SBMA to read and discuss his latest book of astute, often idiosyncratic responses to works of art, Cellophane Bricks: A Life in Visual Culture.

In the book, Lethem gathers his writings on art, many published in catalogs, monographs, or exhibition materials, into a sometimes lyrical, audacious, whimsical, tender, and always surprising volume. Above all, this book is an exuberant love letter to art and artists, especially his father Richard, who remains as he describes him, “My idol.” If we are lucky, father and son will at some point share the stage.

A special “Pop Up” one-night-only exhibition of Richard Brown Lethem’s paintings will be on view in the Art Learning Lab.

Book signing and reception with the artist to follow.
