Dr. Ellis Tinios leads a hands-on workshop based on ukiyo-e (“floating-world”) prints in the collection of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. Prints are examined up close to deepen our understanding of how these remarkable examples of graphic art were produced. Print genres and formats form another topic of discussion, as well as the “art of collecting.” Dr. Tinios plans a lively discussion of ukiyo-e prints with workshop participants. Capacity for this workshop is 20 guests. No previous knowledge of Japanese prints is required.
