Behind the Curtain: The Oregon Shakespeare Festival
“All the world’s a stage!” – And nothing illustrates that better than this season’s offerings at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in picturesque Ashland, Oregon. Sail with Pericles on the open seas, explore the temples of Cleopatra’s Egypt, watch the ancient and modern worlds of China collide (literally!) and witness the struggles facing a group of Pennsylvania factory workers.
Set among the rolling hills of southern Oregon, the award winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is celebrating its 80th year as one of the preeminent repertory theater companies in the United States, showcasing both Shakespearian and contemporary plays (including a U.S. premiere production and a world premiere production!).
Santa Barbara Museum of Art travelers will have the unique opportunity to enjoy pre-tour and post-tour discussions with OSF Artistic Director Emerita Libby Appel, who served as the Festival’s Artistic Director from 1995-2007. Libby will offer unique insights into the plays we are going to experience and the behind-the-scenes efforts involved in organizing a season of 11 plays in four theaters with 500 company members over a period of nine months.
