The colonial cities of Mexico are a visual feast shaped over the centuries- a rich blend of the past and present. During the colonial period, Morelia, San Miguel de Allende, and Guanajuato became major centers of art and architecture, with a proliferation of churches, monasteries, and elegant private residences. Walled gardens and lively plazas reflect the combination of Renaissance, baroque, Spanish, and Moorish architectural styles. We will also visit smaller towns and cities such as Patzcuaro and Queretaro to see their fabulous folk art on this specially-designed tour led by cultural anthropologist Florencio Moreno, a favorite SBMA guide.
