Acclaimed art historian and author Stephen P. Huyler will present his new memoir, Transformed by India: A Life, on Sunday, November 2nd, at 2:30 pm in the Mary Craig Auditorium with a book signing to follow.

This captivating memoir chronicles over five decades of Huyler’s immersion in Indian culture, beginning with his arrival on his twentieth birthday in 1971, when he pedaled a bicycle rickshaw across the Indian border.

Transformed by India: A Life is both a personal journey and a tribute to the innate strength and creative capacity for improvement expressed throughout the Indian subcontinent.

About the Author
Stephen P. Huyler is an art historian, cultural anthropologist, and photographer who has conducted over 124 months of field research in India during the past 54 years. He has served as consultant and guest curator for more than 25 major museum exhibitions of Indian art at institutions, including two shows at SBMA and contributions to the catalogue for the beloved exhibition Puja and Piety: Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist Art from the Indian Subcontinent. Stephen grew up in Ojai and credits the Santa Barbara Museum of Art as giving him his first exposure to fine art and especially that of Asia.

Huyler’s extensive body of work includes eight previous books on Indian culture and art, and his photograph archives have resulted in solo exhibitions at prestigious institutions worldwide.
