Allan Langdale, Ph.D. (Art History, UCSB) will lecture on Roger’s Renaissance: the Palatine Chapel in Palermo. Dr. Langdale has taught in the University of California system for over a decade, frequently travels as study leader on Smithsonian tours, has produced films, and authored books, including his most recent book published in 2015: Palermo – Travels in the City of Happiness: Art, Architecture & History in Sicily’s Ancient Capital. His ability to make any topic interesting has led him to be invited time and time again to join museum tours as a study leader.
Dr. Langdale’s talk will examine the art and architecture of Sicily’s Palatine Chapel and will place it in the historical context of King Roger II’s reign, who ruled over the “Kingdom of the Two Sicilies” (Sicily and South Italy) in the early 12th century.
