SBMA, together with knowledgeable experts, has created a specialized journey to Peru for our Museum Members, with favorite destinations, a fantastic study leader, a top Peruvian guide, and exceptional hotels and restaurants. Whether or not you have visited Peru before, we invite you to experience Peru SBMA-style.

Begin in the capital city of Lima for special visits to the pre-Columbian collections of the Larco Herrera Museum and restoration workshop at the Pedro de Osma Museum, as well as an introduction to the world-renowned cuisine of Peru. Then fly north to the coastal area of Trujillo to explore the archaeological wonders of the Moche civilization. Continue to the Sacred Valley of the Incas and experience firsthand the vibrant art, textiles, and ancient traditions. The journey concludes in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Cuzco, the beautiful former Incan capital and the oldest continually inhabited city in the Western Hemisphere. Here, enjoy a two-night stay at the exquisite Belmond Monasterio Hotel, a restored 16th-century monastery and perennial favorite among travelers.

With archeologist Dr. Kevin Lane as your study leader, explore remarkable archaeological sites such as Huacas del Sol y la Luna, Chan Chan, El Brujo, Ollantaytambo, and the iconic Machu Picchu. Engage deeply with the artists, including an expert Andean weaver in the old Inca city of Chinchero and ceramicist Pablo Seminario in his studio. Step back in time at the sacred Inca temple Koricancha and while admiring the splendid craftsmanship of the Renaissance and Baroque altars at Cuzco’s cathedral.

Dr. Lane, who led a similar SBMA tour in 2022, will provide three compelling lectures as well as his thoughtful insight throughout the journey. Past travelers described him as "engaging, delightful, bright, and enthusiastic," praising his warmth, curiosity, and good nature. One guest remarked, "Anyone who travels to Peru with him is in for a real treat."
