Gifts of art ensure that the Museum can continue to deepen and enrich its collection. SBMA's permanent collection now contains more than 28,000 works of art and spans more than 5,000 years of human creativity and from cultures around the world. Over the past 75 years, patrons of the Museum have donated some of their most prized possessions, in part, making the collection what it is today.
Our Director, curators, and Collections Committee must give careful consideration to such gifts prior to accepting them. We ask that gifts be made in the areas in which we collect and that you notify us of your intentions beforehand to allow us to review and advise as to whether your work is best suited for our collection.
There are many ways to make a gift of art to meet your current and future financial and personal goals:
•Outright gifts of art allow you to receive a charitable deduction at the time the gift is made.
•A promised gift of art allows you to enjoy your artwork throughout your life while making a commitment of a future gift to the Museum either during your lifetime or through a bequest
By giving a work of art, you are not only joining a long lineage of great benefactors, you are also ensuring that your cherished work will be in the best possible care and enjoyed by the public. Donating art makes you eligible for membership in the Legacy Society.
